About

Starting your own business and picking the right niche in no time

Our doors will open at 6pm. Be sure to swing by, eat good food, and make new friends. The panel starts at 7pm and will end at 8:30pm. Afterwards you can chat with the panelists and other guests until 9pm.

Workplace challenges are fraught for everyone, but they’re a particular minefield for underrepresented engineers. If you’re navigating tough dynamics — or simply want to level up your skills — a mentor who has been in your shoes can help. Come to Figma’s panel on the subject to hear more!

Speakers

Olivia Bishop

Prev: Eng Manager at Facebook

Olivia recently managed the React Native team at Facebook, and previously worked as an engineer on Android Messenger. 20% of her brain's memory might be allocated to Hamilton lyrics.

Matt Blair

Software Engineer at Figma

Matt is an Infrastructure Engineer at Figma. He previously led the Site Reliability team at Flipboard. When he's not coding, Matt prefers to swim with fishies.

Dominique DeGuzman

Software Engineer at ‎Twilio, Inc.

Dominique is an Infrastructure & Security Engineer for Cloud Services at Twilio. In addition, she's an active speaker and organizer in the tech community; she is the SF director for Lesbians Who Tech and organizes  Diversity Advocates.

Monica Dinculescu

Software Engineer at Google

Monica is an emojineer at Google. She works on Polymer, web components and Chrome, and has probably at least once broken the Internet for you. She is unreasonably excited about emoji, wary of web fonts, and will become your best friend if you bring her cheese. On second thought, she may be a mouse.

FAQs

Will Figma be providing food?
Definitely, so don’t eat dinner! We will have a full spread and an assortment of drinks before the panel starts. If we have leftovers after, feel free to take some home.

What does underrepresented mean?
We use underrepresented as term for people who identify as a person of color, woman, and/or LGBTQ person.

What is Figma?
Figma is the first product design tool that’s based in the browser, letting people design app and website interfaces together. In other words, what Google Docs did for word processing, we’re doing for design. No other tool -- not Photoshop, Illustrator, or Sketch -- lets designers, engineers, marketers and others collaborate in an always up-to-date design file.

That sounds cool! Who do I reach out to if I want to work there?
We are always (always!) looking to hire engineers to build better design tools for the digital age. Check out our career page at https://www.figma.com/careers to learn more about Figma and our culture. If you want to apply, reach out to recruiting@figma.com.
